April 26, 1884: According to The Comet, âThe East Tennessee Farmers Convention will meet at Knoxville, Tuesday, May 20th. Dr. Dobson is Vice President from Washington Co. and Geo. D. Taylor from Carter. It is hoped that good delegations will go from these two Counties.â
April 26, 1892: With a dateline from Johnson City, and a date of April 25, The Knoxville Journal alerted readers to a horrific story. âIda Grant, a young crippled girl and daughter of A.J. Grant, a blacksmith, who resides at Kingâs springs (sic), near this place, was outraged this afternoon by an unknown man. She was passing through a piece of woodland, when she was attacked by the fiend, who drew a revolver and threatened to kill her if she made a noise. In the tussle the girlâs clothes were torn nearly off. By the time she could report to any one the villain had made his escape. He is thought to be a well dressed (sic) young fellow who was seen drinking freely in the saloons here today.â
April 25, 1872: The Herald and Tribune alerted readers, âCharlie Harrison and Joseph Dickerson were committed to jail last week. They were charged with stealing salt.â
The newspaper also reported, âLem. Wilder was also committed to jail on Monday night. He was tried before Squire Meek, and the circumstantial evidence was so strong that he was bound over in court, a bail of $2,000 being required. He is charged with robbing the shoe-shop of Carr & Seaver at Johnson City, a short time since.â

April 24, 1890: According to The Comet, âGov. R.L. Taylor returned last week from Boston and New York where he had been in the interest of East Tennessee. He and C.S. Brice and other millionaires are interested in a scheme that means big things for this section.â
April 24, 1898: With a dateline of Johnson City, the Chattanooga Daily Times reported, âThe stockholders of the old Johnson City Ice Factory are making efforts to have the plant started at an early day. The plant had to close several years ago on account of not being patronized by home people.â
April 23, 1845: The Jonesborough Whig and Independent Journal reported of a recent marriage. âIn this County, on last Thursday evening, by Rev. Elbert F. Sevier, Rev. Alexander N. Harris, to Miss Edney, daughter of David Haynes, all of this County.â
April 23, 1869: The Union Flag reported exciting news from Johnsonâs Depot. âA lady living at Johnsonâs Depot gave birth to a triplet of boys last week. This is certainly encouraging, in view of our threatening rupture with Spain and England. Maj. G.W. Blackburn, our efficient State Comptroller, will have to order the âsponsâ to the tune of seventy-five dollars upon the application of this enterprising lady, duly (indecipherable) and authenticated.â
