SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. Evan Hannibal and Tyler DeWitt, the men who triggered an avalanche near the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels last year, are expected to accept a plea agreement next month, according to their defense attorney Jason Flores-Williams.
On March 25, 2020, DeWitt and Hannibal were backcountry snowboarding when they triggered an avalanche that damaged a remote avalanche control unit and buried the Loop Road above the tunnels 20 feet deep in debris. Both men were charged with a misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment for the incident.

Both men were charged with a misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment for the incident.
CSP said the incident is being investigated on the westbound side of the tunnel after reports of a vehicle parked along the roadway. A suspicious device was located in the area of the parked vehicle. Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said the suspicious item might be an incendiary device.
5:35 p.m. Westbound I-70 is now closed at Georgetown.
5:21 p.m. Westbound lanes have also been closed just west of Loveland Pass due to a crash west of the tunnel.
5:10 p.m. Eastbound lanes on Interstate 70 are closed following a multivehicle crash east of the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
There is no estimated time for the road to reopen.
