Study: Second vaccine dose still makes organ transplant recipients vulnerable to COVID-19

Study: Second vaccine dose still makes organ transplant recipients vulnerable to COVID-19 In a study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers show that although two doses of a vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 -; the virus that causes COVID 19 -; confers some protection for people who have received solid organ transplants, it s still not enough to enable them to dispense with masks, physical distancing and other safety measures. This is a follow-up study to an earlier one published in March in JAMA, in which the researchers reported that only 17% of the participating transplant recipients produced sufficient antibodies after just one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine regimen.

Mild depression may predict postoperative delirium in older adults undergoing hip fracture repair

Mild depression may predict postoperative delirium in older adults undergoing hip fracture repair Screening for even mild depressive symptoms before hip fracture repair may be helpful in predicting which patients are at higher risk of developing delirium after emergency surgery, according to results of a new study by researchers from Johns Hopkins Medicine. 9 Best Diabetic Socks 2021 - Diabetic Socks for Women and Men

courtesy For people with diabetes, choosing the perfect pair of socks means more than just grabbing the most colorful pair off the rack. “The right socks can help improve blood circulation in the feet, reduce the risk of irritation and foot injury, and help keep feet dry,” says Rita Kalyani, MD, an associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. As many as 50% of adults with diabetes experience a type of nerve damage called peripheral neuropathy. This can result in pain or tingling in your feet or it can cause your feet to feel numb, so you might not even realize something is irritating your toes or that you have a blister or callus until it results in an infection or damage (if left untreated, sores can turn into foot ulcers). Diabetes can also cause the skin to become dry and cracked, and poor blood circulation makes it more difficult for infections and injuries to heal.
