On an episode of Good Day Atlanta, Katie announced:
“I simply want to share more mornings at home with my family. I know this time with my children is precious, and I don t want to miss any of it. So right now, that means taking a step back from this career I love to really focus on being a wife and mother.”
“My dream growing up was to deliver the news in my hometown, and I will always be grateful to Fox 5 for giving me this amazing opportunity,” Beasley said.
Jackson Kurtz is happy to be back home, reporting in Kansas City.
He joined the KMBC news team in January 2021 from WJCL 22 News in Savannah, Georgia.
Jackson grew up in Overland Park, attended Bishop Miege High School, and studied broadcast journalism at the University of Kansas. At KU, he fell in love with journalism and spear-headed news programs at the student-run TV station, KUJH-TV.
There he won accolades from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. During school he also spent time in the newsrooms of KSNT in Topeka, CBS News in New York City as an International Radio Television Society Fellow, and in the KC metro.

The 2020 Gabby Awards were held virtually this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The annual banquet coincides with GABCON, the annual Georgia Association of Broadcasters convention that was also unable to meet in person.
The 2020 Gabby Awards honored the best work from Georgia Broadcasters that aired in 2019.
The Chattahoochee Valley was well represented this year with winners in TV and radio categories.
WTVM and WRBL TV both were honored with awards for their meteorology teams and WTVM s Derek Kinkade won the Gabby for Best Meteorologist.
Legendary sports broadcaster Scott Miller was honored for his work with the Columbus State University Cougars with the Gabby for Best Sports Play by Play.
Sean Powers is Georgia Public Broadcasting's first director of podcasting. He joined GPB in 2014 as a producer/reporter with On Second Thought, and remained with the program until 2018.
