Savannah charter boat businesses growing miss judy georgia bight

When Travis Easterlin was laid off last July, he took it as a sign that it was time to do what he’d always wanted. Easterlin and his wife Katie put their heads together to set up their own fishing charter. In early April after nine months’ planning, the husband and wife team officially launched Georgia Bight Charters.   “Basically, our five-year plan became our right-now plan,” said Katie Easterlin. “We were able to use some of the stimulus money to pay for business start-up costs, so the timing of everything was a positive push towards our dream.” With 15 years’ experience as a boat captain, Travis Easterlin wasn’t new to the sea or the regulations governing it. He renewed his captain’s license, obtained a fishing license from Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and got certified in CPR.

Pharmacist dies after falling 250 feet from overlook at Tallulah Gorge State Park in Georgia

A woman died after plummeting 250 feet from an overlook at a Georgia state park.    Nancy Moore Smith, 58, of Blue Ridge, was visiting the Tullulah Gorge State Park on Thursday when she fell off Overlook 2, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GDNR).  Game wardens and paramedics from two counties responded to the scene and found Smith s body at the bottom of the gorge.  The incident is still under investigation and officials have not yet determined whether it was an accident or a potential suicide.  Unconfirmed reports claimed witnesses saw Smith climbing over the railing and talking to a park ranger moments before she fell.

Coastal Georgia Ecosystem Report Card Scores Georgia s Coastal Environment B+

AllOnGeorgia April 23, 2021 An annual report measuring the health of coastal Georgia’s ecosystem released today shows a slight decline from last year in overall scores, but most indicator trends remain positive. The Coastal Georgia Ecosystem Report Card scored the state’s coastal environment at a “B+”, or 77 percent, a three-point decrease from last year, according to the Coastal Resources Division (CRD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which commissions the report. “While we’re always striving to improve our scores, this slight decrease does not represent a concern at this point in time,” said Jan Mackinnon, a CRD biologist who oversaw the report. “Slight changes in environmental factors, including weather patterns, wildlife migration, and data collection can lead to different scores each year. The report still ranks Georgia’s coast in moderately good health, and we’re confident in the long-term trends.”
