Georgia Republicans Are Trying to Change the Rules for Fani Willis’s Prosecution of Donald Trump for Election Crimes Elura Nanos Donald Trump‘s phone call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and Georgia Republicans are already trying in earnest to change the rules that apply to prosecutions of election crimes. Georgia state Republicans introduced a resolution Thursday that seeks to change the Georgia State Constitution to mandate the use of state-wide grand juries in prosecutions involving election crimes. The move would force prosecutors to draw more grand jurors from predominantly Republican rural areas of the state. Per the bill’s text:

Immigrants and asylum-seekers who rely on legal representation. All three of these groups are among those supported by the American Bar Endowment’s Opportunity Grant Program, which announced Monday that it will provide more than $275,000 to 15 “new, innovative, boots-on-the-ground projects that address the urgent legal needs of underserved communities. “Even a modest grant can accomplish so much and truly advance an organization’s work, often serving as the first funding to launch a critical initiative,” Carolyn B. Lamm, president of the not-for-profit public charity, said in a news release. “With our funding, the ABE meets its mission to help meet the need for legal services and supports.”

Former Clayton Chief Magistrate Wanda Dallas moves to Stockbridge law firm

STOCKBRIDGE — Former Clayton County Chief Magistrate Judge Wanda L. Dallas has joined the law firm of Meadows, Macie & Sutton in Stockbridge as “of counsel”. Her work with the firm will be a general legal practice with an emphasis on criminal defense. Prior to joining the firm, Dallas served as chief magistrate judge of Clayton County for seven years hearing thousands of cases and overseeing the operations of the court. As a courtroom litigator, Dallas tried more than 80 jury trials in her time as both an assistant solicitor for the city of Atlanta Municipal Court, as well as a senior assistant district attorney for the Fulton County District Attorney’s office. Dallas also gained extensive experience addressing employment issues while working with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office as its’ Labor Relations manager. She also previously served as an associate judge of the Fulton County Juvenile Court and as chief judge of the Riverdale Municipal Court.

Renowned Professor Comes (Virtually) to Library of the Chathams Professor Paul Lombardo will present a virtual lecture on the legacy of Eugenics in America.  More than 100 laws were passed in the US during the 20th Century, both federal and state, that reflected ideas associated with the eugenics movement.  This presentation will survey them with an analysis of the popular beliefs people associated with eugenics” in the first two decades of the 20th Century, including Better Baby and Fitter Family contests and the proliferation of commercial advertising that highlighted eugenic ideas.  Many of these were absorbed into the country s political and legal culture, including sterilization laws for people deemed feebleminded  or socially inadequate.
