There were plenty of nights over the last year when Bridgett Floyd couldn t sleep. Days when she thought she couldn t go on.
But in the year since her brother s death under the knee of a Minneapolis police officer, she said she watched George Floyd become a catalyst for change in policing in America. When we say we have justice for George, we also have Black justice for families that nobody has seen behind the curtains, she said. Cases that were swept under the rug. My brother has opened all the cases.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Members of George Floyd’s family, and others who lost loved ones to police encounters, joined activists and citizens in Minneapolis on Sunday for a march that was one of several events planned nationwide to mark the first anniversary of Floyd’s death.
Hundreds of people gathered for the rally in front of the courthouse in downtown Minneapolis where the Chauvin trial concluded a month ago, many carrying signs with pictures of Floyd, Philando Castile and other Black men killed by police.

Amid chants of “no justice, no peace!” and “Say his name,” Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter watched alongside a dozen of Floyd’s family members as speakers called for justice for families of Black men slain by police.

Henderson County Lowest Impacted County For COVID
(Henderson County, NC) One county in western North Carolina has the lowest impact of COVID-19 in the state. Henderson County is the only one in the state under the color green in Health and Human Services most recent COVID County Alert System report this month. Green signifies low community spread. Cherokee and Polk counties still remain in the orange level, or substantial impact.
State Urges Holding Off Outdoor Burning
(Raleigh, NC) Hot and dry conditions are causing concern for the North Carolina Forest Service. The Agriculture Commissioner is encouraging North Carolinians to hold off outdoor burning through early June. There have already been 25-hundred wildfires in the state this year, which already outpaces all of 2020. It s expected to be in the upper 80s in the mountain region through the week.
