Letter to the editor: Answers to writer s election questions are out there

Letter to the editor: Publishing debunked claims gives them unearned credence

Letter to the editor: Publishing debunked claims gives them unearned credence Share I’m wondering if the Portland Press Herald is now in the conspiracy theory business. His letter spouts unproven “facts” that are easily debunked by a quick search on Google. There was no evidence of defective or hacked voting machines and this election was pronounced fair and accurate, time after time, by court after court. Even the Supreme Court twice refused to listen to this false claim. His source, Sharyl Attkisson, has spouted unproven anti-vaccination conspiracy theories for at least a decade, yet the author calls her “honest and independent.” Hardly! She was also an early and loud advocate for the now-debunked use of the dangerous drug hydroxychloroquine.

Letter to the editor: Facts contradict election conspiracy theories

Letter to the editor: Facts contradict election conspiracy theories Share In regard to George Lawson’s letter published on Jan. 5: I believe that responsible journalism should weigh the credibility of information before publishing it. When a team of lawyers working for months cannot convince any judicial authority that there has been enough done “wrong” during the election to merit overturning the results – including judges appointed by Republicans and by President Trump himself – then what exactly is the story? You might also recall that the president appointed a special commission headed by Vice President Mike Pence and Kris Kobach after the 2016 election to examine election irregularities – a group that quietly disbanded within a year without issuing a report.

Smoking Gun? [Re Weinberger Knew of Burlington Police Chief s Anonymous Twitter Account, December 15]: There is one way to get to the bottom of the mayor s apparently false account of the actions he claims to have taken when he learned of the chief s online activities. If he took the chief s gun and badge, there would be documentation at the police department regarding the disposition of those sensitive items. In fact, there should be a record of the mayor turning them in within a day or so of him taking them from the chief. Such records would give great weight to the mayor s version of events. A lack of such records well, just sayin .
