Pocomoke City shooting: Victim shot in leg, sent to hospital

View Comments The Pocomoke City Police Department is investigating a Tuesday night shooting that sent one person to the hospital. The shooting was reported at about 8:10 p.m. on Laurel Street, according to police. A victim was shot in the leg, police said, and had to be taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury That person has since been transferred to George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C. for treatment.

Sick kids are more receptive to smiling faces than to doctors trying to communicate through multiple layers of protective equipment and not having to suit up with a mask and other gear is one benefit of an expanding telehealth program, according to a doctor at Children’s National Hospital. Funding from the Federal Communications Commission COVID-19 Telehealth Program has allowed the hospital to create a regional telemedicine consortium of 15 connected centers. “That allows us to connect all pediatric patients in the DMV to specialty care at the right time, in the right place,” said Dr. Shireen Atabaki, associate medical director of Telemedicine and program director for the COVID-19 Telehealth Program at Children’s National.

Scotti, died on April 18 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington. She was 65. Barbara was born in Providence and educated at Elmhurst Academy and Lincoln School. She moved to Washington in 1974 to attend American University, where she earned a degree in international relations and Soviet studies. In her teens, Barbara began working for U.S. Senator John Chafee as a campaign volunteer and after college joined his Senate staff and became a longtime aide. She later worked for U.S. Senator Lincoln Chafee.

MedStar Georgetown’s School Health Center at Anacostia High Michelle Francis walked past a student one morning at Anacostia High School where she works at a clinic run by MedStar Georgetown University Medical Center then looked back to see him stuff a sleeping bag and duffel into the bushes. Suspecting that the student was homeless, she worked with clinic and school staff to connect him and his family to housing. “As a nurse, we are trained to be observant,” says Francis, 55, who has been an LPN for 11 years. “I might take a blood pressure and notice cutting on the arm. We had another student, her clothes were dirty. She said her parents didn’t have money for detergent.”
