It said in a statement that the satellite will be tasked with working with its two predecessors-HY-2B and HY-2C-to form a space-based network monitoring the marine environment around the clock.

China to launch Haiyang-2D Oceanography Satellite from Jiuquan May 18, 2021 A Chinese Long March 4B rocket is expected to take a Haiyang oceanography satellite to orbit early Wednesday morning. Liftoff from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center is expected at approximately 12:10 PM local time (04:10 UTC) on 19 May. The Haiyang-2D satellite, the fourth in the Haiyang-2 series and eighth Haiyang satellite overall, will be deployed into sun synchronous orbit to conduct oceanographic research. The mission will launch from the SLS-2 launch pad, part of Launch Area 4 at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Inner Mongolia. The launch of Haiyang-2D will be the seventh launch from Jiuquan this year.

Synopsis The satellite was launched by a Long March-4B rocket carrying the Haiyang-2D (HY-2D) satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China, the state media reported. Reuters China on Wednesday successfully sent a new ocean-monitoring satellite into orbit as part of its effort to build an all-weather and round-the-clock dynamic ocean environment monitoring system which would provide early warning on marine disasters. The satellite was launched by a Long March-4B rocket carrying the Haiyang-2D (HY-2D) satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China, the state media reported. The HY-2D will form a constellation with the HY-2B and HY-2C satellites to build an all-weather and round-the-clock dynamic ocean environment monitoring system of high frequency and medium and large scale, Xinhua reported.
