The woman's father, 63-year-old Adolph Gonzales, has been in jail awaiting trial in a 1980s cold case for more than two years.
After hearing arguments that Gonzales, who sat in a wheelchair during the Friday hearing, was physically disabled and little threat to the community, 51st District Court Judge Carmen Dusek took the weekend to review evidence. About 1:10 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2021, Dusek announced her decision.
"While he is charged with a very serious offense ... his present physical condition reduced the concern (that he is a danger to the public)," Dusek said. "Mr. Gonzales, I'm giving you the opportunity to not be in jail."

Camp D.A.R.E., which is short for Development Through Adventure, Responsibility and Education, is a detention facility for young men and is scheduled to close April 30 along with more than two dozen similar facilities in Ontario.
The provincial government used to run the facility but then the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services created a contract arrangement to have it privately run by a company called Wendigo Lake Expeditions.
