Marshall Latimore, 36, Birmingham Native, Woodlawn Grad, Atlanta Editor, dies

By Greg Garrison AL.com He was 36. His mother, Mary Latimore of Birmingham, said she was unable to reach him Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and asked for a wellness check. He was found dead at his home by Atlanta Police just after noon on Wednesday. Mrs. Latimore said her son suffered from congestive heart failure. “He had been hospitalized several times,” she said. “I assume his heart just gave out on him.” She said he was salutatorian at Woodlawn High School, where he graduated in 2002. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Tennessee State University. He worked at several jobs in journalism, including as a page designer for Alabama Media Group, publisher of AL.com, The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times and the Mobile Press-Register, from 2012-2014.

Taber Museum observes Black History Month with display | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 18, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED An African face mask is one of several items on display in the Taber Museum s lobby for Black History Month. The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society has on display several pieces of African art from the Turner-Wilburn Family Collection. The artworks span the collecting of three generations of the family and includes an African face mask, several sculptures possibly created by utilizing the natural form of a piece of wood, a statue of a young man in native garb, blowing a trumpet, and a hand-held drum roped with macrame-style braiding. According to a news release, the artworks are featured in the lobby of the museum and can be viewed during normal operational hours at no charge. There is a charge to tour the rest of the museum. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays.
