The Hollywood Reporter says the movie will be a “character-driven thriller” from a script by Jimmy Warden and that “exact plot details are being kept under wraps.” There’s obviously going to be some fictionalizing going on here, because the full extent of the original story is that a drug smuggler tossed a bunch of drugs out a plane and then fell to his death when his parachute wouldn’t work (because he was carrying too many drugs), and then a black bear found the drugs and died.

This will be based on a truth-stranger-than-fiction-style event that happened in Georgia in 1985 that involved a bear (obviously), some cocaine (naturally), a crooked narcotics officer, some dead people and other assorted criminals (er.). You can find a lot more about the event here.
Quite what the actual film might be remains to be seen – Banks and writer Jimmy Warden are keeping the story quiet for now, but it has the potential to be a Coen-esque tale of odd crime, albeit one that features the sad death of a bear.
