Dangerous Lives Of Altar Boys movie review (2002)

There were times when The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys evoked memories of my own Catholic school days not to confirm the film, but to question it. There is a way in which the movie accurately paints its young heroes, obsessed with sex, rebellion and adolescence, and too many other times when it pushes too far, making us aware of a screenplay reaching for effect. The climax is so reckless and absurd that we can t feel any of the emotions that are intended. Yet this is an honorable film with good intentions. Set in a town in the 1970s, it tells the story of good friends at St. Agatha s School, who squirm under the thumb of the strict Sister Assumpta (Jodie Foster) and devise elaborate plots as a rebellion against her. At the same time, the kids are growing up, experimenting with smoking and drinking, and learning more about sex than they really want to know.

Ten Horror Movies That Will Make You Permanently Suspicious of the Great Outdoors

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, spring is finally hitting its stride. April’s showers are starting to give way to warmer, sunnier weather; the days are getting longer, and everyone’s excited to spend more time outside! Well, most people, anyway. I don’t like to go outside because when I was nine years old, I watched Jaws and have been terrified of sharks and by extension, the natural world ever since. Never mind the fact that I lived in the decidedly freshwater state of Michigan until my mid-twenties and didn’t even see the ocean until moving to North Carolina.

CGI Zombie Tiger In Army Of The Dead Was Modeled After Carole Baskin s Own Tiger Justice League director Zack Snyder s new Netflix movie Army of the Dead has a surprising and unexpected connection to another Netflix property, Tiger King. The streaming company said on Twitter that the CGI zombie tiger you might have seen in the Army of the Dead trailer was modeled after a real tiger from Carole Baskin s Big Cat Rescue sanctuary in Florida. Netflix didn t provide any more details on why this was the case. It s an interesting piece of trivia, at the very least. Here s the CGI zombie tiger from Army of the Dead:

Inherent Vice movie review & film summary (2014)

Inherent Vice is a film about a stoner which itself seems stoned. This is just one small part of what makes it distinctive.  Adapted from Thomas Pynchon s 2009 novel, the movie has been compared by many to the Coen brothers The Big Lebowski, a drug-fueled LA comedy with a similarly labyrinthian mystery (or mystery ) and some shared themes. But Vice is a richer, deeper, sweeter, equally funny movie. It owes a great deal to laid-back, character-and-atmosphere driven 1970s L.A. films such as The Long Goodbye and Cisco Pike, but it never makes too big a deal of that lineage. As adapted and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, it s a historical and political picture about The American Soul, though not too strenuously so. Mostly it s a long, shaggy, knockabout comedy about eccentrics who pursue their own appetites and manias and indulge their private demons while remaining oblivious to their effect on others. As such, it s a great people-watching film, showcasing a diverse cast
