Forestry Beach house up for award
The house is right on the beach.
Indoor and outdoor spaces blend.
The rooms have sliding shutters.
There is an outdoor fireplace between the two sheds.
A house in Te Arai built by Mangawhai builder Kyle Curtin has been shortlisted for the Auckland Architecture Awards by the New Zealand Institute of Architects.
The house comprises two gabled “timber sheds” among the dunes at Forestry Beach.
Architects Fearon Hay, of Parnell in Auckland, say the design is intended to resemble rural working sheds.
The house is layered with sliding timber shutters, which control light, air and privacy, providing a sustainable way to control room temperature.
