Acting pre-emptively, J&K Govt ramping up medical oxygen availability in new GMCs, district hospitals Govind Sharma JAMMU, Apr 29: As hospitals across the country have been struggling with acute shortage of medical oxygen amid a raging second wave, the Jammu and Kashmir Government is doing all out efforts to set up medical oxygen general plants in several hospitals including new Government Medical Colleges (GMCs), District Hospitals and some Community Health Centres to avoid such a crisis in the UT. Official sources told Excelsior that in line with the announcement made by Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Atal Dulloo last week that 36 new medical oxygen plants would be added to the existing system in the near future, 23 of such plants have already been set up and most of them made operational.

Official sources told Excelsior that both the Echo machines, one in GMCH Jammu and other in SSH Jammu went out of order over a month back and since then both the machines are lying unused and authorities concerned failed to get them repaired, leaving the patients to suffer or move to private diagnostic centres.

Modi to roll out SEHAT scheme in J&K next week

Jammu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will roll out the Social Endeavour for Health and Telemedicine (SEHAT) scheme in Jammu and Kashmir on December 26, an official spokesperson said here on Saturday. He said Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo chaired a review meeting here to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme. At the meeting, Dulloo impressed upon officers to keep all arrangements in place for effective roll-out of the scheme by the prime minister and also to ensure that the process of card distribution is expedited so that maximum people take its benefits, the spokesperson said. He directed chief medical officers (CMOs) to expedite the process of registration under this scheme so that no family is left out.
