BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Law officers and others in Bulloch County paused Wednesday morning to remember a deputy killed in the line of duty exactly 20 years ago.
Colleagues and family of Sgt. Wilbur Berry say he went to that call 20 years ago tonight with the same mindset he came to work every day - to help people any way he could and arrest as a last resort. They say that is the spirit they celebrate every year.

The John T. Murray Post 1017 Auxiliary recently held their monthly meeting. The meeting opened according to ritual. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Robin Richmond and approved. Treasurer Pat Kibbe read the treasurers report and was filed subject to audit.
Election of officers were held. Judge was Brenda Drummond and tellers were Mary Krupa and Becky Addington. Elected officers for the 2021-2022 are Pat Rabb, president; Brenda Drummond, senior vice; Judi Perry, junior vice; Pat Kibbe, treasurer, Karen Gill, conductress; Becky Addington, chaplain; Mary Krupa guard, three-year trustee; Susie Dorset, and appointed office secretary Robin Richmond.
Delegates for the sixth district, state and national were also elected. It was voted and passed that the meeting will be the first Monday at 6 p.m. Please note time change.

Greasy Pete, his “tree-sitter” name, went up the “Mamma Tree” on the eighth of this month; Bugs followed, climbing the next closest big tree on the eleventh. Today, they sit on platforms 75 feet up a 200 foot-tall redwood tree, well-equipped to survive indefinitely.
The expectation was that there would be a confrontation on the morning of twelfth – the date set for the Anderson Logging Company of Fort Bragg to begin cutting. Several dozen supporters joined the tree sitters early that morning, prepared to form a human chain to cross the logging road and stop the trucks. It didn’t happen. This delay has provided some breathing space for Greasy and Bugs, but no one doubts that the confrontation is coming.
