Juliet Miles fled her home in Uganda at 15, with her mother, two sisters, two brothers, one suitcase and hopes for a better life in California.Â
Uganda had suffered six years under âlife presidentâ Idi Aminâs brutal dictatorship by the time Milesâ family was able to escape; ultimately, some 300,000 were killed under his rule.Â
Miles says little about that time.
âWe fled the country from Idi Amin.â she said. âIdi Amin was the president and Tanzania had declared war on Uganda â and my mother, being an American citizen, decided we had to leave the country, so we fled.â
Miles had already lived in Egypt, England, Sudan and Germany, but she remembers the culture shock of adapting to California in 1977.Â

We’ve already seen several COVID documentaries, shows about COVID quarantine, and broadcast networks trying to incorporate COVID storylines into their shows with mixed results. Many 2020 releases like
