Since the 1990s, women s organizations in Louisville have joined with local and state agencies to end domestic violence. Groundbreaking laws, like ones preventing eviction due to domestic violence victimization, have been passed. Government resources have been poured into better access to emergency housing and shelter services and batterers intervention programs. Innovative resources, like VINE, the Jefferson County Domestic Violence Intake Center, and the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Committee help to ensure that domestic violence is no longer ignored or excused by our society.

Women are no longer blamed for being beaten and killed. Police and judges have authority to intervene. Friends, relatives and teachers speak up because “what happens in the home stays in the home” no longer excuses domestic violence.
