CANTON â With federally expanded approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds, St. Lawrence County is preparing to host family vaccination clinics for youths and their parents.
The county Public Health Department is offering more than 300 appointments this weekend at St. Lawrence Universityâs Leithead Field House, 100 Park St. The appointment-only clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for minors 12 to 17. Accompanying parents and guardians are also eligible to receive their first Pfizer shots at the same time.
Participants will automatically be registered for the second shot of the series on June 12. Minors not accompanied by a parent or guardian must bring a completed parental consent form, available on the Public Health Department website.
WATERTOWN â Just about one quarter of north country adults are hesitant to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, according to a new study from a partnership between Jefferson Community College and Syracuse University. While there tends to be a prevailing mindset that the COVID vaccine hesitancy is a political issue, what was found in the study suggests other, stronger correlations.
In April, a total of 875 people were surveyed from Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties with two goals in mind: to better understand the attitudes and practices of north country residents related to the pandemic and vaccine; and to learn more about the factors that are associated with hesitancy to get the vaccine. The survey shows that questions about the safety, effectiveness and necessity of the vaccine were the greatest predictors of vaccine hesitancy â not political ideology.

HOUNSFIELD â Last year, it was thought that the property surrounding the long vacant Rusted Route Bar and Grill on Route 3 would soon become home to the areaâs newest farmers market.
Once his proposal had been approved, Tim Allen was free to begin the market at his discretion, but due to various personal health issues, as well as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to wait to start the market until this year.
Now, the time has come for the 1 More Vendor, Farmers and Flea Market to take its place among the markets of Jefferson County, starting Memorial Day weekend. The property at 16902 Route 3 is 323 feet wide and 400 feet deep. Vendor spaces will be 10-foot by 10-foot spots with 10 feet between each of the vendors. There will also be a 15-foot-wide crushed stone walkway separating them.
