Chamber presents annual awards to Jefferson County people and businesses that stood out during the challenging COVID year
Michael Baker named Public Servant of the Year
When the public health calamity of the century hit our world, it fell to Jefferson County Public Health Director Michael Baker to steer the community through the crisis.
Jefferson County Commissioner Kelly Simmelink presented Baker with the Public Servant of the Year award at this year s Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce awards banquet. Most Jefferson County residents do not know of your 12-14 plus hour days, six and eight days a week since last March, said Simmelink, staying on top of the unknown challenges and planning for the what ifs .

Jefferson County has gone more than a week without having to report another death within the county. That’s according to Public Health officials.
In other good news, the 14 day average positivity rate for this day stands at 3.9%; as of the beginning of the month that average was 8.1%.
There are 16 new cases in the county, that total rises to 5,495 Sunday.
225 cases are active, 5,189 have recovered and 81 have died due to the virus.
There are 15 in the hospital and no active cases to report in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
