Jefferson County warns of flooding along Arkansas River after large amounts of rain

The water levels have a chance to become life threatening as the weather begins to intensify. Author: Jade Jackson Updated: 11:19 PM CDT May 2, 2021 JEFFERSON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark The Jefferson County Sheriff s Office issued a warning to residents Thursday, making them aware of flooding that could occur along the Arkansas River. Jefferson County Sheriff, Lafayette Woods, says that the river reached flood stage levels of 31.6 feet on Thursday, which is higher than normal.  The flood stage levels continued to increase, reaching 42 feet on Sunday. Flood waters have a tendency to quickly rise, which could cause it to become life-threatening.    Residents who live in the affected areas were advised to begin making preparation for the rising water levels.

A man accused of assaulting and nearly killing his wife left the country for a planned vacation in the days after the incident and did not return as scheduled, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff s Office (JCSO) who said a warrant has now been issued for his arrest. Last week, a woman reported to JCSO that her husband, 44-year-old Nathan Gustafson, assaulted her and strangled her at their Confifer home on April 19.

Crews hit gas line while working on Old Springville Road in Clay

From The Tribune staff reports CLAY – Crews working to widen Old Springville Road in Clay hit a gas line on Thursday, April 29, 2021, leaving both directions of the roadway closed while multiple crews responded. The incident happened around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Civitan Road, where Bryant Park Elementary School is located, according to Jefferson County Commissioner Joe Knight. The location was in the city limits of Clay. Center Point Fire & Rescue, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Trussville Gas and Water responded. The fire department stayed on the scene for roughly two hours while the gas company worked to stop the leak and repair the line.

On Friday, April 30, 2021, at 8:15 a.m., Jefferson County sheriff s deputies were dispatched to an area off of Bartlett Road where the body of an unidentified male had been found by fishermen.  At the time police arrived, they did not have an ID on Buckles s body and were unable to identify him until Tuesday, May 11. Buckles was reported missing to the Little Rock Police Department in December 2020, after his vehicle was found empty at Murray Park.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. Monday near Metro Storage in the 1100 block of Roebuck Parkway, Crime Stoppers said. The shooter, who may have been a black male travelling in a black Nissan Rogue, was in the moving vehicle when the shots were fired, striking the victim, who was in another vehicle, in the head. The victim is in critical condition.
