(KPLC) - Authorities say a suspect was arrested Tuesday night following a 45-minute police chase through Jeff Davis and Calcasieu parishes involving multiple agencies, according to Louisiana State Police. Sgt. James Anderson says Louisiana State Police Troop D assisted the Welsh Police Department in the pursuit that began near Iowa and ended in Lake Charles on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Thomas Verkler, 34, was arrested for speeding, failure to signal, reckless operation, aggravated flight from an officer, and aggravated assault on an officer. He also faces possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges after a search of the vehicle.

Adobe Stock MONROE - Three deputy sheriffs from the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff s Office face civil charges in Monroe federal court by a 30-year-old Jennings man who says he was wrongfully tasered in front of his family, according to documents filed March 1.  Plaintiff Chance Beroid got into an argument with his fiancé, Jasmine Goodwin, at his parents home in March 2020. Goodwin called law enforcement and deputies Christopher LaFleur, Ferrell LeBlanc and Naquan Senegal responded. Despite the situation being resolved, the deputies did not leave, and instead informed Beroid that he needed to come with them due to a warrant out for his arrest, the suit claims.

Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a runaway juvenile and indecent behavior complaint on February 18, 2021. The juvenile was found in Elton, Louisiana shortly after she was reported missing. Investigators interviewed the runaway and discovered she left because she was approached by a neighbor who had inappropriate contact with the juvenile, according to Chief Deputy Christopher Ivey, spokesperson for the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff Office. The neighbor was interviewed on March 3, 2021, and admitted to the inappropriate contact with the juvenile, investigators say.
