METAIRIE, La. Authorities say two people are in custody after a fight at Lakeside Mall sparked fears of a shooting at the mall on Wednesday afternoon. There is not an active shooter incident at Lakeside Mall, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff s Office said. Deputies responded to a physical fight between two people inside Dillard s.
The sheriff s office said deputies do not believe any gunshots were fired in the fight. The two individuals were taken into custody.
Rumors of a shooting inside the building circulated on social media immediately after the fight. Jefferson Parish Council member Scott Walker shared on Twitter that he saw people running from the mall in droves.
After an altercation erupted inside of the Lakeside Mall in Metairie, many thought an active shooter situation was on-going as panic ensued in the mall and online. Confirmation from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office now shows that no shots were fired and combatants in the altercation have been arrested.

Metairie, La. (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriffâs Office is seeking help in locating 56-year-old Bridget Benton after a fatal accident in Metairie on Monday morning.
JPSO describes her to stand about 5â²6â³ and weighs around 160 pounds. She was last known to reside in Metairie.
Through a Crimestoppers tip, they were able to identify a silver 2008 Lexus LS as a suspect vehicle in the incident. They added the license plate possibly displays â391CTMâ.
The Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie will start offering curbside shopping from some retailers following Gov. John Bel Edwards easing of the shutdown earlier this week. One of the biggest malls in the New Orleans region, the mall has been shut apart from some food curbside service since Mar 18.

ASCENSION PARISH - Certain members of Ascension Parish s law enforcement are sporting a new look for a good cause.
In a Wednesday (Dec. 23) news release, the Ascension Parish Sheriff s Office (APSO) announced that during the month of November Sheriff Bobby Webre allowed deputies to sport facial hair as a show of their support of the American Cancer Society.
APSO says other agencies were asked to participate and together raised over $30,000.
Today we presented a check in the amount of $30,775 to the American Cancer Society - Louisiana raised during the month.
