Police received a 911 call about 5:27 p.m. from a passerby about a gunshot victim outside a long, white apartment house. We found multiple victims, West Jefferson Police Chief Christopher Floyd said Monday night. Earlier at the scene, he told reporters at the scene that three victims were found dead inside, but would not say how many victims were found outside the residence.
Floyd said the shooting occurred sometime between 1 p.m. and the 911 call just before 5:30 p.m.
A motive is unknown and there was no information on any suspect. Victims have not been identified. We don t know at this point if it was a robbery gone bad or what it was, Floyd said. He did say it was not a drive-by shooting.

Police say at least three people are dead after a shooting on Monday at a residence in West Jefferson. According to West Jefferson Police Chief Chris Floyd, three victims were found around 5:30 p.m. inside a home on Jackson Street, with other victims discovered outside. Officials have not released the exact number of people killed or if anyone was being treated at local hospitals for injuries
People who live and work in West Jefferson expressed shock Tuesday after learning that four people had been fatally shot Monday.
West Jefferson Police Chief Christopher Floyd told reporters on Tuesday that four people were killed in the shooting late Monday afternoon three found inside and one found outside near the entry door to an apartment house on the 100 block of Jackson Street just north of Burnham Street.
On Tuesday afternoon, police identified the victims: Andrew Thomas Swindall, 45, of West Jefferson; Shawn A. Wright, 45, and Leon Billy Daniels, 38, both of London, and Jamie Danielle Lavender, 30, Springfield.
No suspects or further information, such as which three of the dead were inside and which one was outside, was released Tuesday afternoon.

Police are investigating after four people were found shot to death at an apartment building in West Jefferson.
Police responded to a 911 call from a passerby around 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the building on Jackson Street.
Arriving officers found three bodies inside the apartment. Police initially said multiple victims were found outside but later confirmed one person was found dead outside the building.
Officers have not released information on a suspect, but have said they believe it could be a targeted event based on the location of the building.
