Gov. Baker dismayed at teachers union request for access to COVID-19 vaccines in schools By Matt Murphy © T&G Staff/Ashley Green Fourth-grade teacher Kim Kates instructs via Zoom from her classroom in Spencer. BOSTON In an escalating battle over vaccinations and a full-time return to the classroom, Gov. Charlie Baker and the state s largest teachers unions butted heads Thursday over the Massachusetts Teachers Association s and others request to allow teachers to be vaccinated in schools, with the administration refusing to divert doses away from mass vaccination sites and other clinics. A war-of-words erupted after a morning meeting between union officials, state Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders, and state Education Commissioner Jeff Riley to discuss vaccinations.

(Staff photo by Nicolaus Czarnecki/MediaNews Group/Boston Herald) The state’s push to get elementary students back in the classroom full-time by April 5 is not realistic for many communities that have been remote for a year, education leaders told the Herald on Wednesday.
