Cleveland Play House’s virtual New Ground Theatre Festival offers first look at five new Cleveland-inspired plays Joey Morona, cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio Cleveland Play House’s New Ground Theatre Festival is returning in the form of a two-part virtual event on May 15. The program, entitled “Mapping New Ground,” will give audiences a sneak peek at five new Cleveland-inspired plays commissioned by CPH in 2020.
The lineup includes George Brant’s “Crooked River Burning,” “I’m Back Now” by Charly Evon Simpson, Jessica Dickey’s “The Ghost Tour,” “Lake Erie Oubliette” by Chelsea Marcantel and Vichet Chum’s “Liébling.”

Sonia Friedman Productions announces the dates for the RE:EMERGE season as priority booking opens on 15 April at 10.30am, with public booking opening 16 April at 10am. Amy Berryman’s Walden opens the season, with previews from 22 May, and running until 12 June; Yasmin Joseph’s J’Ouvert previews from 16 June, and runs until 3 July; and completing the season, Joseph Charlton’s Anna X previews from 10 July, and runs until 4 August. The season will observe the UK government social distancing guidelines for audiences at the time of performance, making adjustments where safe and appropriate to seating and capacity in line with current advice.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley has been approved for a $20,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support its New Works Festival and the upcoming debut of “Nan and the Lower Body.”
Developed in the 2019 TheatreWorks New Works Festival, Jessica Dickey’s play is scheduled to make its world premiere in July 2022.
The National Endowment for the Arts grant also will provide composers and writers the opportunity to develop their work and artistry by forming collaborations that shape new forms of theater with the support of professional staff and resources in an upcoming TheatreWorks New Works Festival, according to a press release from the company.
