We previously reported on the various aspects of the Section 889 ban on the Government and government contractors’ use and delivery of covered Chinese telecommunications and video surveillance equipment, components and services, and the Section 889 rip and replace requirements being implemented through the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). The Department of Defense (DoD) is engaged in the development of a list of covered product and services entities to identify security threats and facilitate the implementation of Section 889 prohibitions. Contractors across the supply chain are taking steps now to check whether they have or use such covered products or services so that they can rip and replace and truthfully certify their status in the mandatory representations and certifications

Huawei, ZTE among 5 Chinese firms posing threat to US national security: FCC

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Friday designated five Chinese companies as posing a threat to national security under a 2019 law aimed at protecting U.S. communications networks.
The FCC said the companies included Huawei Technologies Co, ZTE Corp, Hytera Communications Corp, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co and Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co.
A 2019 law requires the FCC to identify companies producing telecommunications equipment and services “that have been found to pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security.”
Acting FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement: “This list provides meaningful guidance that will ensure that as next-generation networks are built across the country, they do not repeat the mistakes of the past or use equipment or services that will pose a threat to U.S. national security or the
