Galesburg Lakeside pool opening delayed until Friday
The water park was scheduled to open Tuesday, but will now open Friday.
Given the delay, city staff will update the policies to comply with the most recent state mandates. Due to limited staffing, there are reduced hours for open swim Monday through Thursday, reduced facility capacity of 100 persons, and a potential for a rotation of which pools may be available throughout the day.
Hours will be noon to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday and holidays.
GALESBURG A Galesburg couple has stepped away from the business where they spent just over a half a century serving frozen treats and more to their customers.
Fran and Linda Klavohn, who came to town to lease their first Dairy Queen in 1968 and eventually would own both Galesburg locations, sold the pair of stores on May 17 to Jaypriya LLC of Holland, Michigan. It s just time to have some fun, said Fran, who noted he and Linda plan to spend more time traveling in their motor home. We ve thought about getting out for quite a while, actually. But then every time we would think about it, something would happen, and we said, oh, I don t think we ll do that now.
GALESBURG A distinctive downtown structure could soon be transformed into a brewery that would include a brewpub and event venue.
Benedict Developers is seeking a grant from the city of Galesburg for proposed facade renovations at 185 S. Kellogg St. The 18,000-square-foot brick building for many years was home to car dealerships. It also was the site of Mechanical Service Inc. and served as the home of Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development and the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
Separate from the facade work, the project will also include the complete renovation of the interior of the building. Once complete, the project will offer a new taproom with approximately 30 taps, a brew house area and a venue space that would be for events such as weddings, concerts, game tournaments or other community events.
