Severe weather warnings are now in place for large swathes of NSW and Queensland with heavy rainfall, abnormally high tides and damaging surf expected.
A trough over the northern NSW coast continues to bring heavy rain to the region while Queensland braces for the highest tide of the year with waves over five metres possible today.

Heavy rain is expected to be worst across the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast today with conditions forecast to ease during the afternoon and overnight.
Despite the possibility of less extreme conditions, showers and thunderstorms will persist for the coming days and will continue to bring the risk of flash flooding.
