Deals, quips and Wally Ballou: Kansas Pat Roberts exits Capitol Hill after a half-century

By BRYAN LOWRY | McClatchy Washington Bureau | Published: December 22, 2020 WASHINGTON After Sarah Little watched her former boss of 20 years, Sen. Pat Roberts, deliver his farewell speech on the Senate floor Dec. 10 after 40 years in Congress, she left a voicemail to express her appreciation. The novel coronavirus pandemic, which has resulted in judicial emergencies and played havoc with court schedules, had no bearing on her decision, Emery said. “I talked to all the other judges at the beginning of the year – before the pandemic – that I was planning on retiring sometime in 2020,” the judge said in a phone interview Tuesday.
