Gerald Smith has won agreement from a judge to issue a “certificate of inadequacy” after the Serious Fraud Office accepted that he will be at least £30 million short of clearing his arrears. The let-off for Smith was agreed during a commercial court hearing in London over the ownership of tens of millions of pounds of assets obtained in deals conducted by him and others, including the Formula One investor Andy Ruhan. The Serious Fraud Office is seeking to win the right to some of the money, which includes millions of pounds worth of homes in London and elsewhere, and the remaining proceeds of a series of complex property deals carried out via a web of transactions involving offshore companies and intermediaries.

Recently, I was watching a news story about the efforts to restore and rebuild Notre Dame in Paris.
It has been two years since the devastating fire that brought down the spire and much of the roof of that landmark. No matter what your beliefs, that edifice, which is one of the best examples of French Gothic architecture, has portions that date back 850 years. Its use of a flying buttress and vault system is a wonderful example from the Renaissance, and the importance of this church is to not only Paris, but the world. That fire nearly destroyed this centuries-old religious structure.

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - City officials are drawing a line against gun violence in Richmond.
Mayor Levar Stoney, Police Chief Gerald Smith, and other city leaders joined forces Thursday to announce they are declaring gun violence a public health crisis.
This would happen through a formal resolution - one that outlines the current state of gun violence, which the mayor says disproportionately impacts Black communities and underserved neighborhoods.
“We believe this declaration and acknowledgment will open up the avenues for more dollars to flow into Richmond to focus on this,” Stoney said.
