A 33-year-old woman arrived at the emergency room of Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and promptly suffered cardiac arrest due to clots in her main pulmonary artery.
She was stabilized thanks to the quick actions by a team of people, including a patient care technician who performed CPR.
That technician was Ethan Carpenter, a nursing student at Georgian Court University in Lakewood. Today Carpenter becomes a nursing graduate along with a few dozen classmates who served on the front lines in hospitals during the pandemic.
High school student impaled by javelin in Toms River
TOMS RIVER A teenager was hospitalized after he was impaled by a javelin at a track-and-field event, police said
Police were called to Donovan Catholic High School in Toms River late Tuesday afternoon where officers found the javelin impaled in the 16-year-old Pine Beach resident s right thigh.
There was no sign of bleeding and the boy was able to talk with medical responders, police said.
He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The extent of his injuries was not known.
It was not clear if the boy is a student at the school or if he was participating in the event.

An Epidemic of Community Violence

Newswise Project HEAL (“Help, Empower, and Lead”), a hospital-based violence intervention program working in coordination with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center, opened its doors this month with the mission to address community, domestic, and gang-related violence in Monmouth County.
“Creating a very specific type of care for those affected by violence – from the moment they enter our emergency department to long after the point of discharge – is critical,” says Aakash Shah, M.D., medical director for Project HEAL. “It is needed now more than ever, and I applaud Governor Phil Murphy, Attorney General Gurbir Singh Grewal, and the leadership of Jersey Shore University Medical Center for helping us with this program.”
