Officials break ground on Rebuild By Design
Project aims to protect Hoboken, Weehawken, and Jersey City from flooding ×
Local, state, and federal officials, including Governor Phil Murphy and United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge broke ground on the Rebuild by Design project.
United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge, Governor Phil Murphy, legislators, and local officials broke ground on the Rebuild by Design Hudson River Project in Hoboken this week.
The resilient infrastructure project, made possible by $230 million in Superstorm Sandy recovery funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, aims to protect Hoboken and portions of Jersey City and Weehawken from storm surge flooding and rising sea-level threats posed by climate change.

HOBOKEN – Governor Phil Murphy and United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge today broke ground on the Rebuild by Design Hudson River Project in Hoboken. The resilient infrastructure project, made possible by over $230 million in Superstorm Sandy recovery funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, has been in the planning stages for several years and will protect communiti
New Jersey Secretary of State Tahesha Way and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Acting Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette are encouraging Garden State business owners to prepare for the launch of New Jersey’s ban on single-use carryout bags and polystyrene foam food service products in stores and food service businesses.
According to a press release, on Nov. 4, 2020, Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation into law which prohibits the use of single-use plastic carryout bags in all stores and food service businesses statewide, and single-use paper carryout bags in grocery stores that occupy at least 2,500 square feet beginning May 4, 2022.
The law is designed to reduce pollution and protect New Jersey’s environment and economy for generations to come, according to the press release.
