The fight over American fossil fuel dependency is upon us. Earlier this week, Republican Senator Steve Daines of Montana put a hold on the full-chamber confirmation vote for President Biden’s pick for the Department of the Interior, Deb Haaland. “She opposes pipelines & fossil fuels,” was the reason given at the top of his statement.
The financiers and corporations behind the fossil fuel industry realize their window for a cash-grab is closing (if very slowly). A research article published recently by University of Vermont experts shows 69% of survey respondents reported increased or greatly increased visitation to natural areas and forests during the pandemic, with 26% adding that they had either never or very rarely accessed these areas before the pandemic. These respondents report that visiting nature for exercise, birding and stress relief was “very important.” The study’s authors conclude, “Experts in zoonotic disease predict the potential for more frequent pandemic events, thus predicating the importance for continued funding for, maintenance of, and improved access to, natural areas to our largely urban civilization.”
North Jersey pipeline station designed to feed gas to New York faces growing opposition

Elected officials are expressing growing opposition to Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company’s proposed compressor station upgrades, designed to pump more natural gas through North Jersey, but officials in the town predicted to be the most affected by the project have yet to take a stance.
West Milford Township Council members on Wednesday delayed a vote until later this month on a proposed resolution in opposition to the company’s East 300 Upgrade. Set to upgrade an existing compressor station in Wantage and add an electric-driven unit in West Milford, the project is specifically designed to feed more gas into New York state, company records show.
