Deadline extended for Hoboken Rebuild By Design Project

Senator Bob Menendez, Mayor Ravi Bhalla, and Us Department of Housing and Urban Development Regional Administrator Lynn Patton toured the sites of the future Rebuild by Design Project s resist structure in March.
While most people have kept a close eye on Washington D. C. and the latest omnibus-spending bill due to much-needed coronavirus relief, Hoboken has another reason to hope President Donald Trump signs it; Rebuild By Design.
Thanks to U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, chair of the Sandy Task Force and ranking member of the Senate’s housing subcommittee, the more than 5,000-page bill now includes language that extends the funding deadline for the “Rebuild By Design” project which aims to make the city more resilient to storm surges.

Jersey City Council approves zoning measure to move Morris Canal Manor project forward

At Monday’s caucus meeting, Lavarro revealed Jersey City received $1 million from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to reimburse the purchase of the property, which was supposed to be incorporated into Berry Lane Park.
Acting Business Administrator John Metro said the dollars remain unspent, adding that the city can work with the DEP to find a comparable project where the money can be used.
Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA) Executive Director Diana Jeffrey said the site, known as Steel Technologies, was always privately owned.

A liquid natural gas facility near Philadelphia got the go-ahead from a federal agency, resulting in a big thumbs-down from some very famous environmental activists.

The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) recently approved a construction permit for the Gibbstown Logistics Center in Gloucester County, NJ, which will be capable of handling exports of liquified natural gas. The project from New Fortress Energy involves transporting the gas from the Marcellus Shale across Pennsylvania to the terminal using 100-car trains that activists have called bomb trains.
Pennsylvania State Sen. Katie Muth, who represents Philadelphia s suburbs, likened the trains to the energy of the Hiroshima bomb in a tweet opposing the project.

Lawrence Township earns top environmental award
Lawrence Township’s focus on sustainability – from creating a solar carport at the municipal building to installing two electric car charging stations for public and municipal use – has earned the Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award for Climate Change and Clean Air.
Lawrence Township Councilman Christopher Bobbitt accepted the award – which is New Jersey’s premier awards program that recognizes outstanding environmental performance, programs and projects – at the virtual awards ceremony Dec. 14.
“On behalf of my fellow Township Council members, the municipal manager and the residents of Lawrence Township, I am honored to accept this award,” Bobbitt said.
