Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said the city will build a new North District police station to replace its current Heights precinct, which is over 100 years old and in disrepair.
In a Facebook post, Fulop said new police station will be built on Central Avenue between Hutton Street and Sherman Place. He added that all police vehicles currently parked on surrounding streets will be parked at the new facility, effectively freeing up more on-street parking.
“We have met with the community in the surrounding area numerous times and have incorporated their feedback,” Fulop wrote. “They requested the building design be changed to be more consistent with the aesthetics in the area, and they requested that we don’t use Sherman as an access point being it is one way - both of those requests we took seriously and incorporated.”

Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop had the backs of the hotel and restaurant employees in fighting for restrictions on Airbnb in the city, and now they are repaying that support.
The Hotel Trades Council (HTC), which represents 40,000 hotel and restaurant employees and has nearly 1,000 members in Jersey City, has endorsed Fulop and his City Council slate in this year’s election, the mayor’s campaign announced Monday morning.
The figure, which does not include doses given to healthcare workers and residents of long-term care facilities through hospitals and pharmacies, highlights a persistent short supply that has hamstrung rollout across the U.S.

The news that the Hudson County Democratic Black Caucus has endorsed Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop and his city council slate in the 2021 election comes as no surprise, two community activists say.
After all, three members of the mayor’s ticket seeking re-election Joyce Watterman, Denise Ridley and Jermaine Robinson are members of the caucus, a group of city, county and state elected officials.

The frosty relationship between U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez and Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop is plunging to sub-zero temperatures.
As Menendez’s son, Rob Menendez Jr., considers challenging Fulop in the Jersey City mayor race later this year, the powerful U.S. senator blasted Fulop in a scathing statement Thursday, cautioning Jersey City voters that the mayor would abandon them “once they no longer serve his own political ambition.”
