In a widely encouraging move for New Jersey’s pandemic-ravaged arts communities, New Jersey Performing Arts Center will reopen this summer for indoor, in-person performances.
NJ Advance Media has learned the multi-stage venue in Newark, which was shut down in March 2020, will return with three socially distanced performances in June and July, followed by a full list of fall performances. More shows will be announced.
It s a weighty title. But the New Jersey Theatre Alliance online summit planned for April 22 and 23 is up to the challenge. It will bring together arts minds from around the state for two days of learning, collaboration and the acquiring of tools that will better equip participants to tackle the systemic issues that plague the theater world and society. I’m excited about this conference because it will enable us to bring together New Jersey arts leaders and emerging leaders and students to examine how every single person’s role is critical in building this culture of equity, diversity and inclusion, said Donna Walker-Kuhne, a marketing and diversity expert who is part of the summit s steering committee and a senior advisor at New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center based in Newark said beginning this summer season it will require all patrons to have the COVID-19 vaccine, or test negative for the virus, in order to gain entry to the venue.
NJPAC officials are hoping the move will help start the rebound for the Newark-based performance arts center, which offers music, dance and poetry events throughout the year.
The venue plans to offer a summer and fall schedule, and will enforce mask requirements, as well as offer touchless services for check-in and ramped up sanitization efforts.
