The first of several eggs laid by an endangered peregrine falcon atop the Union County Courthouse Tower in midtown Elizabeth hatched Tuesday morning, officials said.
The egg hatched at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday and three more eggs were expected to hatch in the coming days, according to a release from Union County.
A “Falcon Cam” has chronicled the activity of multiple pairs of adult peregrine falcons throughout the years and provides a livestream of their activity, which can be seen at ucnj.org/falcon, county officials said. The cameras are intended to provide schools, researchers and birding enthusiasts with new learning opportunities. Starting last year, the nest cam was equipped with audio.

On Sunday, Chris Sullivan reeled in a 25.8-pound tautog that measured 32.5 inches, according to Capt. Tom Daffin of Fishin’ Fever Charters.
The gigantic tautog was caught in 100 feet of water at an offshore wreck roughly 20 miles southeast of Cape May, New Jersey.
“It took one minute for him to get one turn on the reel,” Daffin said.

But, make no mistake, aside from exceptionally warm winters, the Garden State offers quality ice fishing every year, with a variety of species that rivals anywhere else in the country.
Whether you’re a bait-and-wait/tip-up ice fisherman or a jigging junkie, New Jersey has something to offer. With all the public water, it’s sometimes difficult to pin down where to catch what and how. Lakes that offer consistent action with panfish may have a noticeable absence of flags throughout the day. Other lakes that produce pickerel, bass, and even pike almost never produce even a sunfish on a jig. If you’re looking to start ice
