New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal will leave his post as the state s top law enforcement official for a position at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, according to a Tuesday statement from Gov. Phil Murphy.
Grewal, 48, of Glen Rock, has served as attorney general since 2018. It’s unclear when he intends to step down, though his new job as director of the commission’s Enforcement Division begins July 26.
During his tenure in Trenton, Grewal made a name for himself by suing the Trump administration dozens of times, including frequent legal barrages against the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
