What if flying reduced your carbon footprint?

What if flying reduced your carbon footprint? Wind power pioneer Henrik Stiesdal tells climate conference the technology is nearly here about 3 hours ago   Imagine a scenario where flying on planes reduced your carbon footprint. Wind power pioneer Henrik Stiesdal is developing an aviation fuel from agricultural waste and green hydrogen that actually removes carbon from the atmosphere. He told the Dublin Climate Dialogues conference that his new SkyClean fuel is produced by burning agricultural waste in a pyrolysis oven and combining some of the components with green hydrogen to create biomethanol, which can then be synthesised into aviation fuel. The end product is a fuel that is chemically the same to the A-1 jet fuel currently used by airlines but produced in a way that removes carbon from the atmosphere, which means its carbon negative.

Germany adopts new law to hasten the end of coal plants

Germany adopts new law to hasten the end of coal plants Naysayers say the target of no coal energy by 2030 is impossible to achieve. PUBLISHED BY A new climate law adopted by Germany requires that all coal-fired power plants be shut down before the promulgated 2038 deadline. In January 2020, the German government had negotiated a deal worth €40 billion to phase out coal power by 2038, but now it seems the country is in a hurry to end its dependence on coal power due to urgent climate concerns. The new law is a result of a judgment passed by Germany’s Constitutional Court at the behest of a lawsuit filed by complainants who felt the onus of adhering to strict carbon emission norms and climate control unfairly fell on future generations. Under the original law of 2019, Germany was to become carbon neutral by 2050 and reduce its carbon emissions by 55% by 2030. But now, the new law says that it should become carbon neutral by 2045 and reduce emissions by 65%.

Europe s gas projects face big blowout | Asia Asset Management

A recent Reuters analysis highlights the challenges to Europe’s natural gas industry as banks withdraw financing from government-backed projects they see as facing “existential” risks. It says a proposed 35% increase in EU gas import capacity will create an 87 billion euro (US$105.67 billion) stranded asset risk, citing an April 7 report from US energy think tank Global Energy Monitor. You’d wonder why any banker worth their salt would put money on such a risk. In fact, apparently gifted with more sense and insight than politicians, they’re not. The energy monitor report refers to 30 billion euros of LNG projects either shelved or delayed during 2020, largely because they failed to find financing.
