Przegląd Lekarski – Oświęcim has already published a note describing the death in the Warsaw ghetto of Professor Franciszek Raszeja, a distinguished surgeon from Poznań (Pospieszalski 129). However, no source information has been made public so far concerning his life under the German occupation of Poland and the particulars of the last days of his life, so it is a worthwhile effort to shed light on the matter, using the available documents. Franciszek Raszeja was born on 2 April 1986 in Chełmno. Alojzy Mordawski, a Toruń lawyer, wrote in a letter to me that Raszeja was his school friend and they completed their secondary education in Chełmno before the First World War.
