Germany has implemented tough new lockdown rules in a bid to curb a third wave of infections, issuing a set of unpopular measures expected to last until June.
Follow RT on The EU has commenced legal action against the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, for under-delivering on vital Covid-19 shots, the European commissioner for health said in a tweet.
In the tweet on Monday, Stella Kyriakides, the European commissioner for health and food safety, said that every vaccine counts in their efforts to save people against the deadly Covid-19 virus.
“Our priority is to ensure #COVID19 vaccine deliveries take place to protect the health of [Europeans]. This is why @EU Commission has decided jointly with all Member States to bring legal proceedings against AstraZeneca,” she tweeted.
Sources told Reuters and Politico last week that Brussels was mulling legal action against the pharmaceutical firm, which had vowed not to make a profit from the sale of Covid-19 jab during the pandemic.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday expressed solidarity with India over the sharp surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, sharing that Germany was urgently preparing a Mission of Support to help India tide over the health crisis. Taking to Twitter, Angela Merkel s official spokesperson Steffen Seibert shared her statement where the Chancellor expressed her sympathy with India over the suffering assuring that Germany stands in solidarity with the citizens in the fight against the virus.
The Latest: India sets another daily record of 346,000 cases

SRINAGAR, India For the third day in a row, India set a global daily record with 346,786 coronavirus cases.
That increased India’s total to more than 16 million cases, behind only the United States. The Health Ministry reported another 2,624 deaths in the past 24 hours, pushing India’s confirmed death toll to 189,544.
Hospitals in New Delhi and some of the worst-hit states have reported critical shortages of beds and oxygen supplies on Saturday. Families are waiting for days to cremate their loved ones at overburdened crematoriums, with many turning to makeshift facilities for last rites.
TEHRAN â Iranâs state-run IRNA news agency is reporting the countryâs civil aviation agency has banned all flights to and from India and Pakistan because of the dramatic surge in coronavirus cases in the two nations.
IRNA says the decision was made by Iranâs Health Ministry and it takes effect Saturday at midnight.
Mohammad Hassan Zibakhsh, spokesman for Iranâs Civil Aviation Organization noted there are no routine flights between Iran and India and âflights are operated occasionally.â
Several other countries in the region, including the sheikhdoms of the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Kuwait, also have banned flights to and from India over the rise in coronavirus cases there.
