Germany-based thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has delivered the second next-generation SA’AR-6 class missile corvette ‘INS Oz’ to the Israeli Navy. The naming and handover ceremony was carried out at Kiel in the presence of officials following all Covid-19 safety measures. As the general contractor, TKMS is under contract to construct four SA’AR-6 class missile corvettes.

Second Israel Navy warship handed over in Germany The INH Oz corvette is the second of four vessels being built in Kiel by ThyssenKrupp and German Naval Yards. The INH Oz, the second of four small corvette Saar 6 warships being built for the Israel Navy, was handed over in Kiel in Germany yesterday. The handing over ceremony was attended by Israeli Ambassador to Germany Jeremy Issacharoff and Israel Navy head of shipyard equipment Brig. Gen. Ariel Shir. The ceremony was held in the shipyards where the corvettes are being built in a joint project by German Naval Yards and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. The two German companies are also building submarines for the Israeli Navy. The first of the four corvettes, the INH Magen, was handed over the Israeli Navy in September 2020.

The contract for the delivery of four SA’AR 6 corvettes was signed in May 2015. After the design phase, the construction phase began with the type ship’s first cut ceremony in February 2018. Only 15 months after the first steel was cut, the ship was undocked. In May 2019, the INS Magen received its name in Kiel and was handed over in November 2020.
