RWE and H2U sign green hydrogen agreement

Advertisement RWE Supply and Trading (RWE) and Australian hydrogen project developer The Hydrogen Utility Pty Ltd (H2U) have joined forces to develop hydrogen trading between Australia and Germany and therefore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Together, the companies aim to bring green hydrogen produced in Australia to Europe. This is in line with the objective of HySupply, a 24-month German-Australian feasibility study which started December 2020 by the German Academy of Science and Engineering and the Federation of German Industries. RWE and H2U are contributing to this with their expertise. Furthermore, the planned LNG Terminal in Brunsbüttel, Germany, where RWE intends to book capacity, will be an ideal location for the future import of hydrogen into the country.

RWE moves to secure green hydrogen for Germany from Australian developer

15 April 2021 8:33 GMT Updated  15 April 2021 9:11 GMT RWE Supply & Trading has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Australia’s Hydrogen Utility (H 2U) in a move aimed at building up global trading routes for green – renewables-produced – hydrogen between Australia and Germany. The agreement is in line with a bi-lateral feasibility study called HySupply that was kicked off last December by the German Academy of Science and Engineering and the Federation of German Industries aiming at bringing green H 2 to Germany. Europe’s largest economy last year as part of a $10bn national hydrogen strategy said it will massively invest both in the ramp up of hydrogen technologies in Germany and the establishment of a global hydrogen economy to allow for large-scale imports of the green gas into the country.
