Over P790 000 for Botswana as UB Joins GCSMUS Initiative The Global Centre of Spatial Methods for Urban Sustainability (GCSMUS) has committed over 60 000 Euros (about P793 800) for its activities in Botswana in 2021 alone. This follows a five-year Cooperation Agreement University of Botswana (UB) and Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) in Germany signed to implement GCSMUS) activities in Botswana from 2020 to 2024. UB through the Department of Sociology which is one of the lead partners of this global initiative, is represented by Professor Gabriel Faimau. GCSMUS is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development via the DAAD programme “Higher Education Excellence in Development Cooperation – EXCEED.” DAAD is Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, German Academic Exchange Service.

EU supports Vietnam in adopting better management of packaging waste 12:17 | 04/02/2021 The European Union cooperates with the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and other stakeholders to take steps towards efficient plastic waste management in Vietnam to reduce marine plastic litter. Rui Ludovino, first counsellor at the Delegation of the EU to Vietnam, shared his thoughts about packaging management in Vietnam The information was stressed at a consultation workshop on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Plastic Packaging co-hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), the EU and Expertise France on January 20 in Ho Chi Minh City. The principle of EPR mechanism is outlined in the revised Law on Environmental Protection (LEP) in Vietnam.

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría will discuss how to ensure fair access to vaccines and build resilience in developing countries – two big tests for global solidarity – with World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, political leaders, heads of development agencies and civil society organisations at a virtual debate from 12:00 to 14:00 CET on Monday 8 February.
