Church representatives and political leaders are paying tribute to Swiss theologian Hans Küng who died Tuesday at the age of 93.
The theologian who participated in the Second Vatican Council, was a critic of the doctrine on papal infallibility and his authorization to teach Catholic theology was revoked in 1979.
Leading tributes to the theologian German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called Küng an enduring role model as a scholar, a brilliant thinker with a sharp mind, who was at the same time an alert political observer and a committed fellow citizen.
