gamescom 2021 Will Be Digital and Free
There won’t be a physical gamescom 2021 presentation, as The German Games Industry Association will go digital again this year. The nationwide event ban led to gamescom 2020 being canceled and going online-only. Now again it will be free for anyone to watch and virtually attend starting on August 23, 2021. The goal is to keep people healthy and safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
A few of the online “events” also came up. devcom will kick gamescom 2021 off on April 23, 2021, for example. Then there will be Geoff Keighley’s gamescom Opening Night Live on August 24, 2021. (Keighley hosted the same show in 2020 and showed off over 20 upcoming games during it.) Additional events will follow between August 26-27, 2021.
Koelnmesse and German Games Industry Association have revealed that the 2021 gamescom event will be a virtual one just like last year. Gamescom: Opening Night Live kicks off the show in August.

Gamescom On-Site Event Canceled, Digital Event Runs in August

Free, all-digital event runs from August 23-27
The German Games Industry Association announced on Wednesday that it has canceled the on-site portion of this year s Gamescom video game trade fair, and is instead running a free, all-digital event. The reason for cancelation is that too many companies are unable to participate in physical events due to the still difficult development. The organizers had originally announced this year s fair to be a hybrid event including both on-site and digital portions.
Devcom for game developers will start on August 23. Then, the Gamescom event will start with Gamescom: Opening Night Live with host Geoff Keighley on August 25. The main event days will be on August 26-27. The event will also feature Gamescom Epix, a community campaign that will allow fans to immerse themselves in the Gamescom universe.
