Middlesbrough headteacher owes her life to NHS after battle with Covid-19

By Rachel Conner-Hill echorachelc Chief Reporter (Tees Valley & North Yorkshire) Middlesbrough teacher Julia Rodwell praised the virtual covid ward at James Cook, which she credited with saving her life A HEADTEACHER says she “owes her life” to NHS staff after getting Covid-19 pneumonia. Middlesbrough woman Julia Rodwell, 51, was treated on the “virtual ward” being run by South Tees Hospitals, which allows patients to be monitored remotely from their own homes, when her condition worsened and had to be admitted to hospital.  Patients are loaned a pulse oximeter - a small non-invasive device which clips on a finger – which allows patients to monitor and report their oxygen levels to the respiratory team at the trust during regular telephone calls.
