Most Cape high schools will beat state deadline for in-person learning

Most high schools on the Cape will beat that state deadline. Five schools Barnstable High School, Falmouth High School, Sturgis Charter Public School in Hyannis, Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School in South Yarmouth and Monomoy Regional High School in Harwich plan to  resume in-person classes five days a week starting Monday. Two high schools Mashpee Middle High School and Bourne High School brought students back to the buildings full-time this past Monday. And Nauset Regional High School in Eastham plans to have all students in their physical classrooms by May 10. Only Sandwich High School, Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Bourne and Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich are waiting to resume full-time, in-person classes until May 17.

Charlie Baker on Friday is slated to announce $70 million for summer learning programs to help students catch up after more than a year of educational disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Baker will make the announcement about summer learning at an 8:30 a.m. press conference at Canton’s Galvin Middle School, where school officials are planning to boost learning .

Charlie Baker said will aim to bring kids back up to speed. With more than $70 million in funding, including at least $25 million of federal money, the Baker administration plans a “full menu” of academic and recreational programs that school districts could offer this summer in schools, through local community organizations, at community colleges and at recreation sites.
